A Day Off

I'm taking the day off. It's been 5 days that I have slaved over the cooking, cleaning, shopping, running, playing with the dogs and other items that I do because I'm currently on "sabbatical", so I thought I needed a day off to rest my feet and cool the jets. I've started by picking some of our tomatoes we've been growing. The wifey has been laboring over the fact that I have not been tieing them up properly...but Heh! I'm busy.

We also planted the cotton we have had in pots for awhile, and hopefully it will stay alive, grow and we can get enough cotton in order to use for spinning.

And Speaking of Spinning!!!
This Thursday I started on the White stuff I have been talking about. I did go back and forth a lot on choosing between the Merino/Silk blend, or the BFL/Angora. The Angora blend is about 75% angora, and it's a blend that I have not spun yet. OH Yeah, I chose the The angora blend. It spins fast and I need to focus more so I don't over spin it. It's wonderful.......And I look forward to the finished product. I'm thinking at this time that I may ply it with the Silk blend...but more on that later.

Tomorrow we, wifey and I, will be donating platelets down at the local blood bank so I may not be on my best game.

"The Flag" Original editorial in 2002

Two years ago my wife and I bought an American flag to hang in the front of the house. We’d use it for the occasional flag type holidays, Flag day, Memorial day, Fourth of July, you know, those three day weekends. It was a typical inexpensive flag with the plastic eagle and ty-wraps to hold it to the inexpensive tube. And every “flag day” I would unfold it from the plastic bag it came in and assembly the pole and put it in the holder that came with “the Flag”. In the 70’s I had an “Impeach Nixon” banner on the house, I’m glad I’m an American and can voice my opinion. “The flag” has been outside a lot lately. For almost a year I’ve put that flag out everyday. In the early evening the porch light would shine on it, and I’d take it down. And in the morning, on my way to work I put the flag in that little holder. Over the last year I’ve had to put new ty-wraps on “The Flag” to hold it in place, and glue the plastic eagle back down. Even the pole is getting a little rusty. And every morning when I put “The Flag” up I notice the red strips are getting a little more faded. I never replaced or repaired the “Impeach Nixon” banner. And I thought I would never have to with “The Flag”. But I will.

MY FAVORITE DOG !!EVER!!

At some time in all of our lives we lose our friend. And it’s very sad because he’s our best friend. And even though we have many dogs and have had many, many dogs we always feel that the loss of the most recent was the worse and that the dog we just lost was the best dog we have ever had.

I found Nick 15 years ago on Grimes Canyon road while driving out to the HART kennels. I had never seen a dog so starved and beaten before. The vet estimated he had not eaten for 30 days, added with that he had a dislocated rear hock, open scars on the face, and a broken tooth.

$1800 dollars and four months later I had an animal that chased cars, and motorcycles, scaled eight foot walls, and tried to kill any other dog within a quarter mile radius.

We went to Ann Boardman’s pet class (many times) and as long as I kept him from the other dogs he did well (he has two of those silly little ceramic statues that Ann hands out to good dogs). Those silly ceramic statues mean more to be than all the ribbons that Carmen has ever earned.

Nicked ran with me years ago. Even though I would dread having dogs come toward us because of the terror Nick would inflict. I loved the security he offered. Most times he would just run by people without acknowledgement, but other times he would guard, and come between me and certain individuals. I trusted his judgment.

Nick was friends with Cindy’s dog Chester. Chester and Nick had both come from sorted backgrounds and they had a small bond.
Nick liked cats.

Nick was 29 pounds when he died, in his prime he was 45 pounds of muscle.

Nick was the most loyal, smartest, most protective, healthiest dog I ever had, and I don’t mind saying that with Carmen and Silver sitting by me. Every dog in our house knew till two days before his death that Nick was in charge and he was fair.

I let Nick go this last month. Nick was the best dog I had and will always hold that title, he had no other title.

Nick had more influence than any animal I ever knew, and we will all miss him.
